Alderfen is managed by anglers and each of the 3 sandpit lakes was dug to the specifications of people with an extensive knowledge of fisheries management to provide the optimum environment for the different species they each contain. At the end of the track there is car parking and toilets are provided.
The lakes complex is set in a 23 acre conservation area site which contains species of rare flora & fauna. We ask that you respect the surrounding environment & keep to the area surrounding the lakes. Vehicles are not allowed off the hard standing.
CARP LAKE: £7.50 per day (24 hours)
SPECIMEN & MATCH LAKES: £5.00 per day

The Carp Lake
This is our five acre runswater. It is well stocked with hard fighting commons and very scaly mirrors to mid-20s. There are many reed-fringed bays, points, bars and an island. The swims are large and comfortable and night fishing is catered for.
The Match Lake
This is our forty peg match lake. It covers three acres and is four to six feet deep and horse-shoe shaped. It was created to give the fairest possible venue. It is heavily stocked with silver fish, chiefly roach and rudd, plenty of skimmers, 3-4lb carp, and the odd large bream.
The Specimen Lake
This is our specimen/pleasure fishing lake. It has two islands set in three acres of reeds, lily beds and rushes. It is well stocked with shoals of tench to 8lb, roach, rudd, large bream, perch and crucians.

after a visit to the lake i was rather let down. i had one nice carp at 16lb after a 7 hour wait. the carp lake has more crayfish than carp in it. their is a posative sign of pike in their some to be looking over the double figure mark. if you want pike fish the carp lake. in 4 days and only one carp it was a let down . if we was told their was crayfish then we could have fished to combat this . the balif was a let down . he did not do the resort any good . over all i say the lakes have a good chance of being a real good water if the balif gives correct information . if he put a couple of cats in the carp lake well they would take the crayfish down and become a good size in no time.
Had a GREAT overnight session with my good friend Chris . had my 1st double of the year at 5:20 am. VERY nice to meet the owner. WILL return in June. Tight lines to all who fish there. Simon C
I first visited Alderfen shortly after it opened, and had a cracking overnighter on the carp lake. Working abroad has kept me away until this week, when we went back and fished on both the match and carp lakes.
The match lake produced over 50lb of roach and ide between us, our best roach bag ever, and the carp lake produced two big doubles, both beautiful leney mirrors.
This is old school angling at its very best, peaceful, beautiful scenery with loads of wildlife. (we saw a barn owl, kingfishers and a woodpecker)
The site has matured a lot since my last visit, and is a credit to its owner.
Can't wait to get back there.
