The Newland Hall Country Estate is situated 4 miles west of Chelmsford, Essex. It consists of a large picturesque 15th century Tudor Manor House with a moat, beautiful gardens and over 100 acres of grass and woodland with four superb fishing lakes surrounded by unspoilt countryside. Recently fully refurbished Newland Hall is a premier wedding venue catering for exclusive wedding ceremonies and receptions.

The four fishing lakes total approximately 10 acres. They are all very well managed, very tidy and are heavily stocked. There is ample close by parking, toilets and drinking water.

The Brook Lake is pegged for 50. It is heavily stocked with common and mirror carp up to 30lb, roach and tench. The lake is ideal for carp, match or pleasure fishing.

The Moat Lake is pegged for 30. It is very heavily stocked with common and mirror carp and roach. The average size of fish is smaller than the Brook Lake, which makes it perfect for both match and pleasure fishing. Match winning weights regularly exceed 300lb (see angling press).

The Park Lake is pegged for 15. It is stocked to a similar density to the Moat Lake and therefore is perfect for pleasure fishing and small matches.

The Moat Lake, Brook Lake and Park Lake are available for day/night fishing and bookable for matches. We do not book individual swims for day and night tickets; this is operated on a first come first served basis.

The Osiers Lake is a members only specimen carp water. Membership enquiries - 01245 230202.

Please telephone 01245 231463 to check lake availability and make match bookings.

  1. i have fished this water many times and have to agree with the majority it is a troubled water! the bailiff used to let the eastern europeans on and that is where most of the big fish ended up! in their bellies.
also the swims were shocking litter strewn all over the place which i dont understand because there are bins evrywhere on the lake
the kids are a massive problem over newlands and more often than not they start over casting into other swims or into another anglers swim on opposite side of the lake. it would be an ideal lake if age restrictions were put on its anglers especialy over night when all it seems they do is play loud music start fires and generally piss the serious anglers off

If the new bailiff can sort out the issues of the lake then it would once again become a decent place to fish! its a crying shame to catch some of the fish over newlands with the amount of damage some of them have to their mouths its a wonder they can live!

i have been over there recently and it seems some things have changed like the swims have had a spruce up and wood chips laid down
also the lake has been widened and the island seems to have shrunk
newlands use to an awesome fishery myself and my 3 brothers have often been there for a few hours and caught in excess of 200lb of carp its fun when you catch a big carp but it would seem there are few in there anymore with an average of 7lb thats rubbish! we used to average 10-14lb a fish

so come on newlands step up and make newlands a great place to fish once more by restocking with a few 30's and several dozen 20's you know it makes sense

    thanks

i have done many nights on this water over the years with my son and it is was a nice water till about a year ago then it was like people lost intrest and was only intrested in money.
i once told the guy who took my money that there was dead fish in the margins and told him that it had been there for a long time and he was not intrested all that he was worried about was what time i got there and when i had told him that i had got there at 8:00am and was going to go about the same time next day he told me that i was to leave at 6:00am the next day as its from 6:00-18:00 and 18:00-6:00 and i must go at 6:00 if not i must pay for 12 more hours for me and my son.
if i was to give some advise then to the guys who run this water take abit of time and talk with the guys on the water and not allow any one under 16 to night fish with out a adult as i have had many nights where i have done and there is loads of kids just dropped of there and left to run riot all night.
in all the times i have fished here i have NEVER seen any one show a present after 19:00 at night.
the head count on fish in all lakes there have dropped two folds over the years and if thing keep going the way they are there wont be many more left to catch things need to change very quickly.

the toilets need a lot of help they are very dirty all of the time.

if you want to catch small stuff all day perfect place to go but many others around that topthis place.

    top tip

anyone useing halibett pellet do not us at night as there is hundreds of crayfish and trash your rigs

  8. Newlands hall used to be a great fishery and i used to catch alot and the biggest was 20 pound. but over the last 2 years or so it has turned into a rubbish venue to go and fish there are alot of stupid kids that cattapult boliies at each other and dont reall take care of the fish. i would really like to see a new stock of fish in the brook lake with some big ones put there. also people 16 and over should fish the brook lake unless accompanied buy an adult. over 16 when people night fish the balif should lock the gate so people cant rob the fish because i have seen this happen alot thay come at 2 in the morning with there glow tip floats catch a couple fish then leave at 5 .

Newland Hall Fishery - Under New Management

The owners of Newland Hall have recently employed a full-time Fishery Manager, Adam Turner. Having spent the last 3 years in Spain training as a Fishery Manager, Adam, with his enthusiasm and commitment is the ideal person to bring about major positive changes.

Five years ago Newland Hall was accepted as one of the best fisheries in Essex. Adam’s brief is to make it so again.

With full support of the owners and with a £30,000 investment, Adam has already carried out various improvements, including re-building the swims on the three day-ticket lakes providing very comfortable fishing throughout the year. He as initiated a netting program to re-distribute the existing fish, as well as purchasing additional stock. He is also planning on refurbishing the toilets and installing a shower.

Adam would very much welcome your views on what we should be doing to get you back fishing at Newland Hall. Please email him on adam@newlandhall.co.uk. www.newlandhall-fishery.co.uk

ITS FULL OF CRAYFISH AND THE FISH ARE IN AN EXTREMELY BAD CONDITION EVEN THE CARP LAKE THE BIG ONE IS FULL OF 7LB CARP AT MAXIMUM WEIGHT ALL THE SWIMS ALSO HAVE BIRD POO AL OVER THEM JUST GENERALLY A BAD UNHYGENEIC TERRIBLE FISHERY AND I WOULD DEFINALTLY NOT RECCOMEND PAYIN £7.00 TO FISH UNTIL 6 OCLOCK WHICH IS WHEN THE BAILIFF TELLS YOU TO GO HOME SO DO NOT COME HERE! 11. have fished many matches at this venue, biggest bag 289lb, but the fish are in a very poor state.

  12. Have fished newlands many times, usually after long periods of blanking on my syndicate. The water is without doubt a runs water. I have caught over 20 carp in one night. The average around 7lb, the carp are in a terrible state, mostly crabbys. I would recommend this as a great first time water but not one to spend too much time on.

  13. I have fished here a couple of times and the place is a dump, it smells bad and the rats are a Problem! - There is always kids messing about with there catapults, and i got sick of people asking "got a spare fag, boillie, hook mate" you know the sort of people i mean! If you must go, go mid week when its a lot quieter - but there are plenty of other Better runs waters around

  14. I havent been there much only 5-6 times but the last trip i went on was 4/10/08 i had 5 takes but only landed one fish. All the takes i recieved was on 14mm halibut pellets and the fish i landed was take on scopex squid boilie. the first take i had seemed trueley masive like a 20-30lb der. but every fish i had on the pellet came off i dont know why...? you dont realy get alot of fish there but when you go on a good day you have a good chance of a big fish.

  15. I have taken many novices to Newlands and they have all taken up carp fishing after a good day/nights fishing. I do think it is a nice relaxing place to fish mid week outside of school holidays when it is not so crowded.

  16. Brilliant to take people if they are just taking up fishing as more often that not you will catch a decent first fish. On the other hand if you are serious about carp fishing and also want to relax I would say this isnt the place for you.

  17. i did catch my PB there, however does get very busy on the public lake

(Posted on 2008-09-01 14:41:00 by nigel)
  18. This venue can get very busy with school kids in the summer. At night they hold wedding and event and you canhear the dj and music until about midnight so not the most relaxing of venues.
