The name "The Monument" is derived from the old relic that is located on a hill overlooking the fishery. It is the remains of an old water windmill. I had been searching Shropshire for a few years, trying to find the ideal location to create a purpose built day ticket carp fishery. As I think you will agree if you visit "The Monument" this site has everything. Download videos of the various TV programs filmed during the development of The Monument: Part1, Part2, Part3, Part4 The pictures showing the valley before work commenced and the two natural spring fed pools already on site. These are now the water source for the main lake with the spring pools being used as stock pools to grow young fish on site. The creation of the lake commenced in Nov '02 with the work being carried out by A.P. Hall & Son, Contact Tel. No. 07860 560 032, who specialize in this kind of work. The lake was completed in January ’03, after which the features were constructed on the lakebed to make “The Monument” a very interesting water to fish. As you can see from the photo the features are substantial in size and will make life very interesting for both the anglers and the fish. The fish were stocked in February/March ’03 and are being fed quantities of pellet to maximise their weights prior to opening. The lake is 9 acres in size and has 15 swims. The monument has been created to offer excellent carp fishing in pleasant surroundings to everyone. I hope you visit us and enjoy fishing “The Monument
Advice and Tips
1. The Monument Carp are now clever fish so don’t think you can just roll up and catch them
2. Look at the underwater features in the fishery office so you know your swim
3. The bottom is clay so camou your rigs to suit
4. Bait – get on the going boilie and keep trying something different, prawns, sweetcorn, maize, large pellets – they all catch
5. Keep your casting to a minimum and back lead to put the lines on the bottom
6. Keep quiet and sit back
7. Feed the swim 2 or 3 times per day to keep fresh bait going in
Fact File
The Monument in terms of a fishery is nothing short of phenomenal. The growth and condition of the fish is incredible with many fish growing in weight by up to 7lb last season.
The Monument as of today has over 300 fish of which 294 are original stock that are still only 8 years old. Now we also have an unknown quantity of magnificent 3 year old fish weighing between 8lb-16lb, these are mainly deep bodied commons. My guess is there are at least 40 of these young fish present.
The Monument holds: -
30 x doubles
200 x 20’s.
Over 60 x 30’s up to 39lb
At least 5 x 40’s up to the lake record of 49lb known as ‘The Pet’ although I believe the fish known as the Scattered Linear will be our first 50! This fish was 31lb 2 yrs ago and reached 46lb-10oz in April 2007.
The average weight during the Spring of 2007 was approx 24-00lb. The potential of The Monument is incredible! See the fish in the picture gallery.

ok you all watched matt and browny catch all them carp... but wait what you didnt see is that its all pre baited and when mike finally did catch it was not a big one as u see 1 rod then it goes off and hey presto its a differnt rod and reel ....... so if u are thinking of going take a shed load of bait feed it up for 3 hours then go fish on it as i did and pulled a 41.57 out dont just splash and dash it dont work i used spicy tuna & chilli
also to add to that £60 isnt alot if its something your dedicated to so must agree with advanced carper well said mate
ive heard many great things about the monument in my area of nottingham and im hoping to get down there myself this year .after watching matt hayes and mick brown also catch 44lb carp from there its given me the incentive to get down there this year so see you all soon
ive watched matt hayes and mick brown fish this lake in early feb and not catch a thing but went back in august and they smashed it even had a 31.1 out and previous to that mick had a 44 so i dont know why alot of people are being so negative about this lake carp fishing doesnt always produce thats carp fishing get used to it or give up fishing if ur just gonna whinge about not catching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have fished the monument twice now and i am booked on again 11th 12thoctober 2010. this has to be one of the best places i have ever fished. yes £60 is alot but it is worth it. i couldn't fish it every week as it would be 2 expensive but 3 times a year ok. all the bailiffs are great and always give up to date advise. also on my last vist rob hales was there and sat in my swim for about 20 mins giving advice. also on some waters it can be abit clicky but not here. if anyone looks at the website alot you will know luke edwards. he catches alot of fish alot of the time. he was there on my last vist. he wasnt fishing but had come down to the fishery cabin. he must have spent a good 30 mins showing me exact places in the margins where the carp tend to spend alot of the time. if you dont like the place then thats fine thats your opinion but for my situation it's perfect and well worth the money
Ben, Daddy and I have bought some more of those name tags with your name on. You know, the one's we sow into your underwear :D and I've also put your fave teddy bear in the wash so it'll be nice and clean for you to take with you next time you go nightfishing :)
xxxx
the monument is well worth the 60 quid. ive fished it about 18 times now and have loved it every time. i caught well on cell and activate using activate in the throwing stick with single sell over the top. i had over 45 carp on there using this method. theres loads of thirties and upper twenties that are in pristine condition when caught. ive never caught a bad fish. theres also a few nice half lins in there which have been out to jus under 38lb. keep quiet and do something diffrent. all in all this is a excellently run fishery with a real chance of a 30 or 2, hope this is of any help to anybody seriously interested.
It's a shame that some people cant use this seriously, iv heard bits about this lake and was thinking about giving it a go, but with this ammount of **** talk i have no idea wether it is going to be worth the 126 mile journey or the £60.
can the admin not delete the junk posts and actualy show some proper catch reports along with method and bait used etc...
